Veteran's Aviation Outreach
Veteran's Aviation Outreach's mission is to locate veterans residing in rural, and remote Alaska, and provide a point of contact between those who provide services, and the veterans in need, refer veterans to appropriate community agencies, and service providers, to keep veterans informed about the various earned benefits from the Veterans Administration, State of Alaska benefits for veterans,and other services and programs for veterans and their families.

American Legion Alaska Department

Forty and Eight
Formed in 1920 by American Legionnaires as an honor society and from its earliest days it has been committed to charitable aims.  Membership is by invitation for members of the American Legion who have shown exemplary service.  All Forty & Eight members are thus veterans of congressionally recognized wartime periods via their Legion membership.

Alaska Disabled Veterans Sports Program
In 2001, a handful of Disabled Veterans and their families formed the Alaska Disabled Veterans Sports Program, Inc. (ADVSP), a 501-C-3 Non-Profit; to provide the Veterans of Alaska with therapeutical recreation therapy activities.  ADVSP provides Veterans the opportunity to participate in the largest wheelchair sporting events in the world, the VA Summer Wheelchair Games, the VA Winter Sports Clinic, the VA Golden Age Games and sporting and hunting events around the State of Alaska.

What we provide:  Priority Job Referral, Career Counseling, Career Assessment, Employment Assessment, Job Development, Labor Market Information, Education Assessment, Job Search Workshops, Special Programs, Testing, Referral to Educational Services, Resume Assistance.

American Veterans (AMVETS) - Department of Alaska
A network of trained National Service Officers across the country provide free expert advice to veterans and veteran's dependents.  Annually these officers handle thousands of claims and obtain various benefits for the deserving veterans.  These include hospitalization, disability compensation, and educational benefits.

Disabled American Veterans - Department of Alaska
Dedicated to improving the quality of life for all veterans and their families in Alaska.  Our motto “Disabled veterans helping disabled veterans” enables us to accomplish this goal by providing information and assisting veterans in obtaining benefits for compensation or pension and finding medical care, mental health counseling, substance abuse and vocational rehabilitation and housing for homeless veterans.

Alaska Pioneer Homes
Professional services range from assurance of a safe environment and occasional help with daily life skills, to skilled nursing, personal care and other support services including end of life care. Many residents receive a level of service that would otherwise be delivered in a nursing home or under the Older Alaskan Home and Community-Based Medicaid waiver.

According to the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Alaska has more veterans per capita than all but one other state and has more of its residents in the military on a per-capita basis than any other state.  It should therefore comes as no surprise that the state also has a large number of veterans' memorials. 26th National Veterans Wheelchair Games
July 3-8, 2006, Anchorage -- Events will take place at the Egan Convention Center, Sullivan Arena, Bartlett High School, Cellular One Arena, Delaney Park Strip, Tesoro Ice Arena, and other venues in and around Anchorage. The National Veterans Wheelchair Games are a multi-event sports and rehabilitation program for military service veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations, or certain neurological problems. Attracting more than 500 athletes each year, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world.
